After choosing the relevant keyword for writing an article, which I mentioned earlier in Keyword Research – Chapter 2, the most important and confusing part of Search Engine Optimization is Keyword Density. This tells the search engines that how relevant content is on the page. How much it is important? A reader can tell us, if we take own example, how we find the relevant material on the web, we probably say the keyword.
Keyword Density indicates the search engines about the quantity of keyword on the page. The higher the quantity, the relevant the content, that is true, but what can happen if you use that word repetitively, yes the penalty we can get from the authorities, which would harm our popularity on web, Oh! So how should I know the best counting figure, I should use in the blogger post? SEO experts say the recommended density of 2 or 3 major keywords should in between 3% to 5% and the 1 to 2 for minor keywords, which is the ideal but sometimes it can be difficult to balance the content. It comes from the practice.
Although there are no strict rules to optimize the keyword but we should be familiar with search engine behavior, they can penalize the content on the basis of more repetition of particular keyword which is also known as keyword stuffing. Practically no one likes to read the same word thrice in the same line or paragraph.
What is the formula of measuring Keyword Density?
It is recommended that you know the formula to measure the density of each web page. The formula is very simple.
- Count the total words on the web page, if you are using MS Word then you can view the counts at the bottom of right side like: Words: 500.
- Then Count how many times you have used your selected keyword and then apply that formula to get the density.
Keyword Density = (Keyword Count * 100)/Total Word Count
We understand this by a simple example. We have 500 words in our article about the ASP.NET Overview, and we are optimizing for ASP.NET.
Total Words: 500 ASP.NET Keyword count: 10 ASP.NET Density = (10 * 100) / 500 The Percentage is: 2%
The Keyword Density of ASP.NET on the web page, simply calculated is 2%, how easy it is. I think you would favor me to accept my statement. But you can you use WordPress (Keyword Statistic) plug-in for ease if you want.
I use Keyword Statistics plug-in for WordPress blog engine to know about the density of one, two or three words phrases, it helped me a lot.
